UNDER THE PRAIRIE

The Under the Prairie Archaeological Museum features the largest display of frontier-era artifacts in the Midwest. The exhibits include thousands of authentic relics of pioneer life, lost and buried many years before the Civil War.

Under the Prairie is an excellent complement to a visit to the nearby Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site. See the actual objects owned by Lincoln's neighbors during the 1830s!

The museum is operated by the Sangamo Archaeological Center, which is also located in the museum building.
